Conditions for Successful Reflective Use of Portfolios in Undergraduate Medical Education

The authors derived the following conditions for stimulating successful reflection through portfolio use by interviewing faculty experienced in mentoring students:

  • coaching
  • portfolio structure and guidelines
  • relevant experiences and materials
  • summative assessment
