Peer Assessment of Professional Competence

Elaine Dannefer et al.

Medical Education
July 2005, Vol. 39, Issue #7, pg. 713-722.

Review by: Linda Heun, Ph.D. <lheun@aacom.org>

The authors review the status of research and application of peer assessment tools in medical education and practice and introduce a new tool for use in the assessment of interpersonal components of professional competence in undergraduate medical students. Factor analysis of data collected with this new tool suggested a 2-dimensional view of professional competence: Work Habits and Interpersonal Habits.

The tool itself is included in the document as well as introductory and demographic items that increased the validity of the outcomes.
