Geriatrics Curricula for Undergraduate Medical Education in Osteopathic Medicine
Authors: Gugliucci, M.R. & Giovanis, A.
Currently the Association for Geriatrics in Higher Education (AGHE) is the only vehicle for recognizing excellence in education on aging.  Osteopathic medicine is the first health care profession to have developed a geriatric curriculm that was approved by AGHE. Osteopathic medical schools that implement the linked curriculum may apply to AGHE to receive recognition as a Program of Merit. Application forms and additional information may be acquired by contacting Marilyn R Gugliucci, PhD (207-602-2453 ~ UNECOM), Co-Chair, AGHE POM Program.

Developing a Blueprint for Primary Care Physician Education in Genomic Medicine
In June, 2009 Dr. Leonard Levy at NSU-COM represented AACOM at an NIH conference regarding Genomic Medicine.  The goals of the conference were to:

  1. To define the current landscape of primary care education in genetics and genomics from the perspective of genetics, primary care, and academic medical communities
  2. To identify core educational needs in genetics and genomics as defined by primary care communities.
  3. To identify opportunities and barriers that face efforts to enhance primary care provider genetic/genomic literacy.
  4. To propose concrete strategies to take advantage of existing opportunities for genetics/genomics education at various stages of primary care physician education.
  5. To plan next steps.

The draft document of the outcomes report is linked above.  Contact Leonard Levy, DPM, MPH, (954) 262-1469  levyleon@nova.edu for additional information.
